Description Originally intended as the second movement of a sonata (following Dreams of a Somnambulist as the first movement), this work is highly chromatic, as the title indicates. It explores contrapuntal techniques in an intentionally-disorderly manner, as a chaotic counterpart to the often-used description of counterpoint as a conversation. Rather than a conversation, this 'argument' continuously weaves in and out of thematic ideas.
